Week 28

General Health
This week I only went to the gym once with my friend at her new gym. It was pretty swank, but a little out of the way for me to visit regularly.

I worked on my leg warmers.

Week 27 – New(ish) Goals

Hello Party People!

I need to get rolling on the next 6 months of 2017 and how I’m going to rock them out. I feel like I did pretty good for the first half but I’m going to simplify and go for just a few goals this time:

General Health
I would like to really get the last of that gym time in and get that reimbursement by year end!

GYM REIMBURSEMENT GOAL: 94(as of 6/27) /120

Sub-Goal – Donate Blood: 2/6

Focus on Creativity
I think this has been incredibly helpful to me for the last 6 months and I want to continue to focus on keeping my hands busy. On Saturday, I did yarn dying with my knitting circle and on Sunday, another craft group went to an embroidery class at Paradigm Gallery. There’s enough stuff going on between these two groups and all of the stuff I have at home that i’m excited!!

Financial Goals

Pay Off the Fucking HVAC
I may or may not have just put out $6,520 for a new HVAC system – it’s good that I don’t have to worry about this for the next decade or so but it sucks. So I would like to pay off as much of this as possible before year-end.

HVAC: $0/$6,520

Professional Goals

I still haven’t had my annual review at work so I’m holding off…

What are your 2nd half goals for 2017?

Week 26 – 1/2 Year Check In!

Well….this is officially 6 months. Halfway through this year! Let’s see how I did with these goals – you can read my original post from January here

Personal Goals

General Health
I feel like I did pretty darn good on this one! I’m down 10lbs thanks to Weight Watchers and some of the StepBet games I was in.
Sub-Goal: Donate Blood – I have donated blood twice and need to schedule another because it is time.

Focus on Creativity
I also did well on this one! I’ve been knitting, using the circle loom, had a great time at a collage event, and look forward to continuing this one. Here is some progress on my recent knitting project and part of a collage I started at a collage party:

I did not read as many books as I had hoped but I started a bunch! I only finished Amy Poehler’s YES PLEASE.

Financial Goals

Pay Down Some Mortgage
I worked pretty damn hard on this one but the HVAC has me all-cash-on-deck until it’s done.

$800/$1,000

Save Like a Motherfucker
I was able to put $1,000 in my savings! It has been difficult maintaining it but I feel better know it’s there gaining a lil’ interest. I also moved my IRA to Charles Schwab where some service fees are waived for doing monthly $100 direct deposit. Saving that $1,200 will be really helpful in the long run and I hope to put more cash into it!

$1,000/$1,000

Professional Goals

License Credits
I completed half of my insurance Continuing Education credits!

Annuities
I started to learn about this and think I am going to focus some of my remaining 12 CE credits on deepening that knowledge.

Why The Fuck Are You Reading This?
I think I did pretty good given the huge financial expenses that have popped up.

Weekly Updates
I can’t believe I did 6 months! Can I make it a year?

How did you do? What are your 2nd half goals for 2017? I want to know.

Week 25 – A Day Early and Some Dollars Short

I’m just now sitting down after a long week of prepping for this flea market that blew. I realized that I hadn’t even started a draft of this and just knocked it all out so here you go a day early! I’m going to focus Monday on on my next gameplan. Here’s what has happened…

General Health

I was down .4 so I am officially down 10.2lbs since I went back to WW. I ate a lot of pizza this week so I’m not confident about Tuesday’s weigh in.

GYM July 2016 – June 2017: 92(as of 6/19) /120

I did a lot of knitting at the flea market and obtained a few more craft supplies that I will utilize.

Financial Goals

Well this one is basically done for this 6 months.

The DiSilvestro Playground was a total bust. I spent $10 on the table and sold $16 worth of stuff. My time was not worth $6 for 6 hours of time. Since I bought breakfast at $9 before the event I would call this a complete waste of my day. There were a few factors that made this a failure – I didn’t know what I was doing. The flea market had a rain delay so we missed Saturday crowds and not all of the customers may have gotten word that we were actually doing Sunday. While I did do a lot of planning on merchandising, I would need to up my game slightly to effectively see all of the merchandise and attract people to actually come in and look.

Will I do another flea market? Probably. I now have 4 boxes of organized and priced merchandise. I also have a slightly better understanding of how to stage things. I will also only do a Saturday event because I learned that Saturday fleas always do better than Sundays.

I completed this goal!

Learning About Annuities
We had another annuity training. I am probably going to focus my next CE credits on annuities because I don’t like the training I’m getting at work.

Blog Goals

What?
I’m having a hard time coming up with goals for the next 6 months. I think this is mostly because of this huge expense that has popped up that I need to resolve.

Weekly Updates
I’m not even sure I want to continue this. I do feel like it helps and gives me a check in but it’s also depressing that by the looks of it…I didn’t really make a lot of my goals. Though maybe that’s just the thing!

It's hot.

When Huge Expenses Arrive

Okay….so as I mentioned in my last weekly update….my HVAC system took a huge poop last week. So. I have a Big Hairy Expense Goal coming up. I BHEG if you will instead of a BHAG for those familiar with business planning.

Estimated Cost: Between $6,000 – $10,000

Here is what I’m doing to make this as easy as possible:

SHOPPING AROUND
My boyfriend freelances and has been available this week to have 4 different companies come to look at our system and quote replacing the gas furnace and A/C. He was also kind enough to do a BUNCH of research to help me understand what these dudes are talking about and what I’ll be paying for.

LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVES
We’ve been taking two box fans back and forth between the living room and bedroom. Unfortunately, there’s also construction on our block so we can’t keep the front windows open. A friend is kindly lending us a window unit so we can wait out the 2+ weeks we may be waiting for installation. This will keep us comfortable at home and less likely to seek out other places that will make us spend money!

CUTTING OTHER EXPENSES
So far I’ve cancelled my Bennett compost service, Spotify, and Amazon Prime. My cell phone will be paid off in my next bill so that should go down. We aren’t running a 25 year old inefficient air conditioning unit so that is saving expenses….though I’m not sure that’s saving when we’re running box fans 24/7.

One expense I’m not cutting? The $15/month gym membership. I’ve been going more and showering there to conserve at the house and make it less hot.

MAKING SOME EXTRA MONEY
I am paying $10 for a 10×10 space at the DiSilvestro Craft & Flea Market on Saturday from 11am through 4pm. I’ve got lots of sewing, quilting, and scrapbooking supplies that I’ve been carting around for way too long. Every night this week I’ve gone home and worked on pricing, staging options, and condensing for ease of travel. My only issue right now is when I signed up for this thing the weather was supposed to be sunny in the 80s and now they’re calling for rain. Anyone have a pop up tent I could borrow?

While pricing and organizing, I’ve been running Swagbucks and InboxDollars

That’s what I’m doing leading up to making a decision and saying goodbye to all of my money for a few months. What do you do when you’re suddenly strapped for cash?

Week 24……Welp.

Between having the bathroom sink snaked and the HVAC dying we are having a month.

General Health

I was down 3 lbs this week!!! Whaaaat? I went to the gym FOUR TIMES this week. Another whaaaaat?

Look, I’m not a huge proponent for “self-care” as I think this is a term that has been branded for marketing purposes and I’m against anything that comes off as another way to get people to buy shit they don’t need. With that being said – my friend encouraged me to get a pedicure on Saturday and LORD JESUS I NEEDED THAT SHIT. I sat in the chair and drifted off with no thoughts while a lady rubbed my feet. I haven’t had a pedicure in about a year so it was time. I feel so much better!

I worked on my knitting a bit more. I need to journal more but was spending my time getting insurance CE stuff done instead.WIN_20170610_09_48_51_Pro

Financial Goals

Well…..these are a bit fucked right now as I am mentally preparing to buy a new HVAC system that is going to cost around $6,000. I need to work on my next 6 month goals and I guess you can guess where my funds will be going.

Pay Down Some Mortgage
I have to give up on this goal now that I’m saving all cash for the HVAC.

Oh man, this one is about to get turnt coming up. I cancelled the last of my subscription services, cancelled one of my Verizon lines as soon as I was eligible, and just loaded up on groceries at Aldi. I’m about to be a saaaaaad hermit for awhile but I’m going to share the journey with you.

My pedicure friend came in from out of town for the weekend and I was thankful to hang out with her. She gets my level of spending right now so we did a lot of free things including the Newbold Blues Festival, sitting on the couch while it rained, and a Summer Solstice party with one of my coworkers. I’m thankful for the people in my tribe that

We did another training last week but feel like this isn’t really working for me.

Blog Goals

What?
I need to come up with my next goals for the second half of the year. I’m not confident that I will be making any blog goals because I’m having a hard time just doing these weekly updates. I also need to focus on making some more money to pay for the HVAC system.

Weekly Updates
I am here and we are going to keep trucking through.

Week 23 – Post Staycation Blues

Last week was rough due to a bug that popped up Sunday night. Bleh.

General Health

I was up last week by .2 which is not at all surprising given my staycation. I worked harder this past week to reverse that through good eating since exercise was not really possible.

I worked on my knitting and attended a collage night on Friday! It was so awesome and I did a collage on a cigar box. I miss doing collage stuff but have been really bad about pulling out projects that take up a lot of space and require cleanup. I guess that’s why I’ve been favoring knitting over painting and such.

Financial Goals

Pay Down Some Mortgage
I put down $11.35 to make it an even amount and say I did something. I’m not sure if I can get that last $200 in by the end of the month but I’m going to try!

Frugal AF
I didn’t spend a lot of money on my staycation and I tried not to spend a lot of money this week. I was gifted free tickets to the Philadelphia Museum of Art so I had a blast going through there with my boyfriend – it was crazy seeing all of those pieces I had to write papers on.

Week 22 – #Staycation

Here’s something different – a play by play of my Staycation.

MONDAY
I hung out at the house all day! I used the circle loom and pumped out 2 hats and started a cowl. I also updated my Ravelry account and had a friend over to do some laundry and eat pizza.

TUESDAY
I took a little road trip in the morning to Doylestown because Traditions Yarn Shop is going out of business and everything was 30% off. I scored 6 skeins of yarn I also stopped at the In Full Swing Thrift Shop and found some great pieces! I also picked up the perfect notions bag at Serendipity and a birthday gift for my boyfriend’s niece at the Doylestown Bookshop.

It felt really awesome to just take off for a mini day trip and support a lot of local businesses! After this, my boyfriend and I drove to Maryland for dinner in honor of the aforementioned niece’s birthday – I started a hat with my new yarn on the road and we came home with coffee and half a watermelon.

WEDNESDAY
We took a road trip down to my dad’s house in Delaware for a few hours. We went to Jimmy’s Grille and feasted on fried chicken and then I grabbed a few more items from my dad’s attic – I’m working one box at a time to clear out the rest of my stuff.

I found a recipe my mom had saved for apricot jello and found a bunch of my old art shit from college.

THURSDAY
I biked into the city this morning to get my shots…only to discover they don’t open until 11am today. Gr. So I ran a few errands in center city, biked home, then Rich and I continued more errands and went back into the city for my shots. We then at from the five dolla holla halal cart and went home.

I spent the afternoon cleaning up the house for guests and then biked to 10th and Pine for knitting circle – so glad to have my ladies to knit with! Friends arrived in the evening and we hung out around the house.

FRIDAY
We went to Lil’ Java Philly for breakfast and off to PhillyAIDS Thrift and Loop yarn shop. I obtained 3 mason jars at 99cents each and two bags from Loop that came out to almost $20. We ordered in Circles for dinner then knit with friends for the rest of the night.

SATURDAY
I got up early and worked on some home shit.
While it doesn’t look like I did much – I went through about 5 boxes of collage supplies/scraps and condensed them down 2. My mom had these amazing Creative Memories roller cases so I put some of my collage shit in there and condensed the rest to 1 box. I’m going to a collage party next week and will now be super portable and excited to share all of these supplies with some ladies.

I also did laundry and went through more donation bags gifted to me – I have quite the donation pile for Big Brothers Big Sisters next week!

SUNDAY
Slowly pulled myself back to reality. Aldi run with my friend where I spent $75 on lots of awesome back-on-track groceries. Salmon, shrimp, chicken, yogurt, hummus, produce, and whole wheat hamburger buns that were only 50cents a pack! Our freezer is restocked and ready to go.

Gym bag packed. Crockpot Mexican Chicken made. Home kind of in order.

Week 21 – Pre-Vacay Cray Cray

A lot went on this week but I’m through it and FINALLY ON VACATION.

General Health

I was down .2 and I’m amazed. I have been bad about logging and need to work on that shit.

I walked with my friend a few times this week and have not done a whole lot else.

Lots of struggle with knitting this week – I’m having a hard time with patterns! it’s only knit knit perl perl and I’m struggling. I think I get it for awhile and then I yarn over on accident and still have  a hard time fixing my mistakes.

I was gifted a circle loom and several more skeins of yarn by another friend. SO THANKFUL TO MY LADIES! This is a quick, easy way to make a loose-knit hat.

I worked an event on Wednesday that left me with 5 entrees and several desserts and that became lunch and dinner for a few days! Thus stretching our groceries just a bit more.

I also cleaned someone’s home for some spending cash for my weekend.

Did I mention my friends are amazing and I haven’t had to pay for any craft supplies recently?

A new perspective on bloggery
I read an interesting thread on Reddit this week asking how much time people devote to side-hustles. A lot of people said “Zero” and spend the time one would use on side hustles to enrich their full-time careers instead. I think there’s something to be said about that.
